2014 KAL - Bergere Poncho

Please join us for our 2014 Knit-A-Long

Bergere de France Poncho

Beginning January 1st, 2014, we will start a new KAL.  By popular demand, we have selected this gorgeous cabled poncho from Bergere.  We will be working on this kal January - March.  This is quite an undertaking and will be fun to knit with a group.  You do not have to be "in-town" to participate.  We will keep in touch on Ravelry, Facebook, Twitter, and on our web-site where we can share pictures of our progress.

We have selected several different yarns in the correct weight of 16 gauge.  These choices will give you different price ranges to choose from.  The yarn will be ordered on November 1st, 2013, to ensure time for the yarn to arrive in the store and get it distributed so we can all cast on together on January 1st.  Yes, you will need to do a gauge swatch prior to beginning the project.

The 4 types of yarn we will be using are:

The pattern has 2 sizes, Small/Medium requiring 1479 yards and Large/X-Large requiring 1740 yards.

The yarn and pattern is as follows:

FYI - Molly is knitting the shop sample using Bergere Magic+, the original yarn for the pattern.  Phyllis is knitting hers in Cascade Greenland.

2014 March KAL - Ariosa Wrap Cardi

Please join us for our 2014 March Knit-A-Long

Ariosa Wrap Cardi by Cecily Glowik MacDonald

Due to the overwhelming response from our Facebook post, we have decided to use this as our March Knit-A-Long.  We hope you will join us in knitting this versatile open cardigan.

The pattern is free on ravelry.

http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/ariosa-wrap-cardi

Molly will be the moderator of this knit-a-long.  Phyllis and Arlene will also be knitting this cardi.  The gauge is 16 stithes, so we have selected to use the Bergere Magic+ yarn beause we just love it.  We will be ordering yarn on the 20th to have by the 28th.

The pattern is written for extra small (8), small (9), medium (10), large (11) and extra large (11).  The number of skeins for each side is indicated in the ().  Several people want to add some length to the sleeves.  We estimate it will take 4 additional skeins if you want full length sleeves, or 2 skeins for half length sleeves.

We will meet on the 28th to knit our gauge swatch.  We will work on this in the shop on Fridays from 4 - 6 in March.

The yarn required for each size are as follows:

  • Extra Small : = 8 skeins
  • Small :  = 9 skeins
  • Medium : = 10 skeins
  • Large : = 11 skeins
  • Extra Large : = 11 skeins

Remember you may need extra yarn if you want to change the size of the sleeves.
